Telford’s balloon fiesta to return this year
Telford’s hot air balloon fiesta is set to return this year, and according to the leader of the town’s council, visitors will have something special to see.
The event first took place in 2018 as part of the Telford50 festivities, which marked the 50th anniversary of the new town. It attracted some 30,000 visitors to Telford. Councillor Shaun Davies, who has led Telford and Wrekin Council since 2016, said:
“We are delighted to have such a spectacle return for another year in our fabulous town park. The Balloon Fiesta was a fantastic day out last year that attracted thousands of visitors to the town and this year promises to entertain the crowds once again.”
He expressed that the event would be a great chance for both visitors and residents to enjoy a day out, adding that he hoped many people would come and enjoy what the town has on offer.
This year’s event will take place again at the QEII Fields at Telford Town Park on the weekend of May 11 and May 12. Entrance will be free, with attendees possibly having the opportunity to take a tethered hot air balloon ride. There will also be a night glow event on the Saturday evening, with further events on the Sunday taking place between 11am and 7pm. Severn Hospice has been nominated as the event’s charity.
As is usual with hot air ballooning, some of the planned activities will depend on weather conditions on the day.
