Hot air balloon flight raises interest in Eastbourne
A hot air balloon flight, an exclusive spa day, a dinner for two in a Michelin-starred restaurant and an iPad were among the big prizes on offer last month in Eastbourne in the run up to Valentine’s Day.
Interactive online business website, The Best of Eastbourne, came up with an innovative idea to advertise local businesses by running a competition with an array of prizes being donated by the businesses themselves. Different prizes could be won each day during the first two weeks of February with the big prize winners being announced at the finale on 14th February.
Called 14 Days of Love, entrants to the competition were asked to write a Valentine’s Day message to their favourite local firm in or around Eastbourne and, with the emphasis clearly on fun and romance, entries were judged according to their sentimentality.
In a press statement, a spokesman for The Best of Eastbourne said that local businesses are vital to the economy and it is essential to support independent businesses, particularly when the economy is slow.
Other recent initiatives by The Best of Eastbourne have been to extend regular local traders’ meetings by encouraging greater online networking between independent firms as well as social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Local businesses which attracted numerous nominations in the competition included a family-run roofing firm and a home improvements firm, although the clear winner came out as The Pantry, who were thrilled to receive the accolade of ‘the most loved business in Eastbourne’.
