Hot air balloon festival to return to Penang
A variety of colourful balloons are set to decorate the skyline of Malaysia’s Penang Island when the Penang Hot Air Balloon Festival returns in February.
Yeoh Soon Hin, chairman of the State Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee, said the two-day event would take place at the Polo Ground in the state capital George Town. Some 15 hot air balloons are expected to participate in the festival, which will be held on the 9th and 10th of February from 7am to 9pm each day.
During a speech at The Path of Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta ceremony, he said:
“The public will be able to participate in various family-friendly activities and creative workshops to be organised during the fiesta which is the fifth to be held so far.”
He later added that the event’s programme would not be limited to Penang Island. Activities will also take place across the water in Seberang Perai, the portion of Penang state that lies on the Malay Peninsula.
Hot air balloon festivals may be rare in the UK during the winter, but that doesn’t mean you need to fly to Asia to enjoy the experience. Some UK operators provide hot air balloon rides all year round and a flight over snow-covered countryside or on a frosty winter’s morning, can make for a particularly special experience. You may even find it warmer than you would expect, because there’s less wind chill when you’re moving with the wind.
