Cheltenham to host hot air balloon event
The people of Gloucester will see a new hot air balloon event in June with the launch of the first Cheltenham Balloon Fiesta.
The two-day event will take place at Cheltenham Racecourse on the weekend of June 22, beginning at 11am on the Saturday and concluding at 9pm on the Sunday. Weather permitting, more than 30 hot balloons are expected to launch from the racecourse. Hot air balloon rides may also be available. The Saturday evening will also feature a nightglow event and a fireworks display.
The event is also expected to include a kite display from The Air Kreations Kite Team. Other entertainment includes displays involving the Knights of Nottingham, Stannage Stunts, Jamie Squibb, the Vander Wheel of Death, and a circus workshop.
Speaking to GloucestershireLive, a Showtime Events Group spokesperson said:
“What makes it even more special for us as the organisers, is that, while it’s a great event for local people, and a terrific platform to promote much of what’s good about Cheltenham, it also attracts visitors from outside the city, too, which is great for local business.”
Prospective visitors can save money by buying their tickets in advance through Skiddle, where tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £4 for children including booking fees, compared with £7 and £5, respectively, at the gate on the day.
Pets on leads are allowed inside the event subject to good behaviour. Note that visitors’ bags may be inspected as it is forbidden to take alcohol into the event.
