Bristol Balloon Fiesta set for August
Europe’s biggest gathering of hot air balloons, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, is to take place this year from Thursday August 8 to Sunday August 11.
Around 130 hot air balloons are expected to launch from Ashton Court Estate, which will be hosting the event. The fiesta will be completely free to attend, although there will be a charge to park on the event’s site. It is likely to draw many visitors from around Somerset and even further afield. In addition to hot air balloons, there will be arena entertainment, fairground rides, trade stands, and more.
The Thursday and Saturday evenings will feature night glow and firework finales, where 25 hot air balloons will illuminate along to a specially commissioned soundtrack. Mass hot air balloon lifts will be taking place on most mornings and afternoons, subject to suitable weather conditions. Two morning lifts will be held in conjunction with Classic FM.
Those wishing to drive to the event are recommended to book a parking ticket in advance. A premium car park will also be available closer to the event, and disabled parking is also available to Blue Badge holders. The organisers stress that drivers should turn off any navigation devices on approaching the event and instead allow the signs to guide them to the correct car park.
A shuttle bus service operated by First Bus will also ferry visitors between the City Centre or Temple Meads Train Station to the event site, with tickets being available on the bus.
