Shugborough Hall - Our Most Popular Venue.
Staffordshire.

The year 2008 heralds the 23rd anniversary of our relationship with the National Trust's Stately Home, Shugborough Hall. Over those years, more than 35,000 passengers have flown with us!

The Hall was lived in by Lord Lichfield (perhaps better known as Patrick Lichfield, the photographer) until he sadly passed away in 2005. We are pleased and honoured to have flown Lord Lichfield on several occasions through the years, and it was partly due to his enthusiasm that we began pleasure flights from his beautiful home.

His son, Thomas, has now inherited the residency and title, and we look forward to his continued involvement at Shugborough.

Set on the edge of Cannock Chase forest, Shugborough Estate is the magnificent 900 acre ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield.

The Estate stands testament largely to the efforts of two people. Thomas Anson (1695-1773) and his brother, First Lord of the Admiralty, George (1697-1762). As a naval officer, George acquired fame by capturing a Spanish treasure galleon.

Today, Shugborough is the home of Thomas Anson, the 6th Earl of Lichfield.

Finding Shugborough Hall is simple. It is situated on the A513 just to the south of Stafford and is very well signposted - even from the M6 motorway which is only about 10 minutes away!

Approximate journey times are as follows:

The Estate offers many different and diverse attractions including:

  • The Mansion House (pictured above), built in 1693 and containing rare rococo plasterwork by Vassali, fine collections of eighteenth century ceramics, silver, painting and French furniture decorating the rooms.

  • The Servants Quarters & Museum Of Staffordshire Life, where visitors can see fascinating re-creations of life below stairs at Shugborough and of life in the county during the last century. Includes kitchens, brewhouse, laundry and the impressive collection of horse drawn vehicles in the coach houses.

  • Park Farm. This Georgian farmstead features an agricultural museum, rare breeds centre and working mill. Demonstrations of traditional farming methods by costumed guides, including shire horse work, milking, cheese making and cooking.

  • Gardens and Monuments. Enjoy the scenic variety of the landscaped park and spot the eight fascinating monuments that were of great importance in the evolution of English architecture. Follow the Lady Walk along the banks of the river Sow to the terraced lawns and Edwardian rose garden.

In addition, shops, restaurant, toilets and picnic areas are also available. The annual programme of events ranges from seasonal craft fairs to the delights of candlelit Christmas evenings and firework spectaculars!
