It’s more than just hot air: three ballooning flights to stun you

Hot air ballooning is one of the best experiences in life. Nearly everyone that has taken to the air in a balloon would agree with this. However, there are some experiences in a balloon that are a little more than a gentle flight over the stunning British countryside.

Here are three of the most stunning flights that have ever taken place in a Hot Air Balloon flights in hot air balloon balloon rides hot air balloon:

Flying low

Quite a common sight throughout the UK, seeing hot air balloons cross the sky is nothing new.

Although, taking a balloon up into the air was not what one experienced Austrian pilot thought would be fun. Instead, he thought it a good idea to take his balloon underground, in a cave in Croatia.

Back in 2014, Ivan Trifonov completed this extraordinary feat after he flew his balloon over 200 metres underground in the Mamet Cave.

The 70-year-old took 25 minutes to complete the flight, having navigated the rather tight entrance; it is just 60 metres by 70 metres.

Such a feat is not to be attempted by novice balloonists, of course, and the balloon had to be specially designed to tackle the challenge. A normal balloon would have been too big to complete the feat, and Trifonov had to sit on a pair of gas cylinders rather than a basket.

Flying high

Moving from depths to heights, the highest altitude record for a hot air balloon is nearly a decade old.

Achieved in November 2005, Indian man Vijaypat Singhania holds the record after he took a flight that reached over 21,000 metres. This is about twice the height that an average passenger jet will fly at when cruising.

Aged 67 at the time, it also showed that experienced balloon pilots know a thing or two, as was the case with Mr Trifonov, of course.

Flying high-cost

Hot air balloon flights are quite inexpensive and definitely high value. However, for those wanting to really push the basket out, there are other options.

Possibly the most expensive Hot Air Balloon flights in hot air balloon ride balloon rides hot air balloon ride you can take, you can now fly over Mount Everest, which only costs £3.3m per couple.

It’s a cost that few couples would be willing or able to stump up, but the experience of coasting over the highest mountain on the planet is certainly one worth boasting about.
